Arlagården® Plus: Arla can tell you all about green electricity
Arlagården® Plus now contains questions about how much electricity is bought and sold on Arla farms. This enables us to inform our customers about the contribution of green electricity by Arla's owners.
Many of Arla's customers care about sustainability, and they often ask how much green electricity is used at Arla farms. The new Arlagården® Plus questions enables Arla to inform customers and other interested parties about the overall amount of green electricity contributed to the outside world by Arla's owners, which is more interesting – for Arla and for its customers – than 'only' looking at the amount of green electricity used. Hanne Bang Bligaard, responsible for Arla's global sustainability work, says:
"We really want to tell our customers about all the sustainability initiatives we invest in on the farms, because then we can tell the whole story about the contribution of Arla's owners to renewable energy, which will help to further strengthen our customers' trust in us."
The owners also have to enter electricity consumption not related to milk production. This enables Arla to tell its customers how much green electricity Arla's owners contribute to society.
Why do I also need to state how much electricity I buy?
When Arla gains an overview of the total amount of electricity bought and sold among Arla's owners, Arla can inform customers and other interested parties about the contribution of green electricity to the outside world by Arla's owners.
Why am I not to enter the solar energy I use on the farm?
When you use some of the green electricity you produce, you buy less – which is why your total amounts purchased and sold tell us all we need to know.
I own a biogas plant together with nine other farms in the area. How do I enter the data from that plant?
If you sell electricity from the plant, you must enter it in Arlagården® Plus. For example, if you own 10% of the plant, then you must enter 10% of the total annual sales of electricity from that plant. If the gas from the plant is sold as gas, you only need to state how much of the fertiliser you use for biogas.
