Arla Foods to strengthen its strategic position in ingredients for infant nutrition of the future
With an acquisition of 3.7 per cent of the shares in Evolve BioSystems Inc. (Evolve) the farmer-owned dairy cooperative Arla Foods is looking to strengthen its strategic position in infant and child nutrition and to create future growth in its subsidiary Arla Foods Ingredients (AFI).
Commenting on the acquisition Henrik Andersen, Head of Arla Foods Ingredients, says:
“Our strategic partnership with Evolve will add to the future growth of Arla Foods Ingredients to the benefit of Arla’s farmer-owners. As a company, we support breastfeeding and believe that mother’s milk is always the best option for a newborn infant. However, for a range of reasons, this is not always possible, and it is Arla’s ambition to offer the very best alternatives to mothers seeking other options. Therefore, we are pleased to join forces with Evolve on carrying our shared vision of developing the next generation of key ingredients for infant and child nutrition.
With Arla Foods Ingredients, the farmer-owned dairy cooperative Arla Foods has built a global leader in value-added whey ingredients used for a wide range of products for all age groups including infants. Together Evolve and Arla Foods Ingredients will co-develop new products and the production technology for those new products. The ambition is to create revolutionary breakthroughs in the field of child nutrition.
Earlier this year Arla Foods announced that AFI will receive large investments by its parent company, as part of Arla Foods' plan to invest more than 100 million euro in new, groundbreaking technology and capacity expansions for its production of natural whey protein ingredients for the global food industry. The strategic investment in Evolve is part of the company’s C-series financing and also a part of Arla’s investment strategy for Arla Foods Ingredients.
